We have plans to extend and trying to do it all on a budget.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03913795457226676694noreply@blogger.comBlogger358125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6113248614575748029.post-31700513143974272122018-09-18T17:38:00.003-07:002018-09-18T17:38:51.423-07:00Desk under the stairs<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

<br />
<br />
Our latest addition to the house is a built in desk under the staircase.<br />
<br />
We used messmate floorboards for the desk and back part of the desk.<br />
<br />
The drawers I bought from IKEA and painted white. It a <a href="https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/40353764/">Klimpen</a> for $120 and comes in grey only.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.ikea.com/au/en/images/products/klimpen-drawer-unit-grey__0487965_PE622858_S4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="KLIMPEN Drawer unit IKEA Can be placed in the middle of a room because the back is finished." border="0" class="zoomMousePointer" height="200" id="productImg" src="https://www.ikea.com/au/en/images/products/klimpen-drawer-unit-grey__0487965_PE622858_S4.JPG" title="" width="200" /></a></div>
We added MDF and skirting boards to make it look built in.<br />
<br />
We even made a ledge above the desk to put the printer on so there is more actual desk space.<br />
<br />
So this is what the empty space used to look like: <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZkmHaTpKC8GKjFxA7VaQdADjSTR_LXfV5nNFZPUc9RxVhERdwDfaf4A337GGUGbK8Kp7ZaYZwZM_19EqxbSsuHqGcijldJQQih5fXJZt8LyVB-Ynzn-1uL9XyRnw1X-bEb1bAAAKmInc/s1600/20171224_142336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZkmHaTpKC8GKjFxA7VaQdADjSTR_LXfV5nNFZPUc9RxVhERdwDfaf4A337GGUGbK8Kp7ZaYZwZM_19EqxbSsuHqGcijldJQQih5fXJZt8LyVB-Ynzn-1uL9XyRnw1X-bEb1bAAAKmInc/s640/20171224_142336.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And this is what it looks like now:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX0UwTpmBU-sHcQVwMfaPJ89gxnZmLbCK7f5GblOeIo4XWVJKCSC-dyerCBdDG3-jMEu8lb7oNVZlahJZ2g0wykyvcjGXhXJczMI7EAY-X704TiIs9j4-CQhgIXiW816lmgM9OoAZAe04/s1600/20180919_103419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX0UwTpmBU-sHcQVwMfaPJ89gxnZmLbCK7f5GblOeIo4XWVJKCSC-dyerCBdDG3-jMEu8lb7oNVZlahJZ2g0wykyvcjGXhXJczMI7EAY-X704TiIs9j4-CQhgIXiW816lmgM9OoAZAe04/s640/20180919_103419.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Looks much better at Christmas time I know.<br />
<br />
Some other shots.<br />
This one is before the timber went on and while the drawers were still grey.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWAQ2rtPIJAoIXQlZnT4ju0Yv2xDs6I4GB8_W9DUGrj1Pzl__p6k6N9QuqDP8tgQtzSIYvFJZhCavnp7aU8GWmejWBqKYnTDNW3cvEWvo3AwW1CVaK36kWIU73AqjFo56hLkipyk09UEQ/s1600/20180902_215809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="900" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWAQ2rtPIJAoIXQlZnT4ju0Yv2xDs6I4GB8_W9DUGrj1Pzl__p6k6N9QuqDP8tgQtzSIYvFJZhCavnp7aU8GWmejWBqKYnTDNW3cvEWvo3AwW1CVaK36kWIU73AqjFo56hLkipyk09UEQ/s640/20180902_215809.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
And these are what it looks like now. Note that we still need to finish the covering up of of the underside of the staircase.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Can you believe that Summer has now finished? Man that flew by.<br />
<br />
During that time we have been planning the design for the backyard and finding a landscaper to help us implement. We snapped a few ideas into a mood board and sketched a shed plan.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Vlfg9n0e_G9bJORXX0PDNXo6OUOxfuGjn_syIHQ8q1El8jNLf3c2Cll9QxD70xa5Lno_Q9gnbbujmp0TUbqXIYy-q1SBcN38TG_7RRmwaRnq-4rKjLiZaQqss0qV3iwtgLWQSdq5h14/s1600/backyard+.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1Vlfg9n0e_G9bJORXX0PDNXo6OUOxfuGjn_syIHQ8q1El8jNLf3c2Cll9QxD70xa5Lno_Q9gnbbujmp0TUbqXIYy-q1SBcN38TG_7RRmwaRnq-4rKjLiZaQqss0qV3iwtgLWQSdq5h14/s640/backyard+.png" width="448" /></a></div>
We need a new shed, big enough to store the kids bikes and one day a kayak for Sammy. I would like to have a big grass area to play soccer and run around on. Some red brick garden beds and a place for the trampoline / spa (one day). Also I floated the idea of a dog potty so we can train the dog to wee and poo away from the new lawn.<br />
<br />
So here is the plan.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi63KRVkaw70m1OSh-_OQoGWgplJbuR78Tn9znmrkkLlZ1KAfng5WF2jInOykVGBcSO2FyqVgNm5pz7bTXgdNacIye9wSuEi4yHnn3BDTO6_SGLW0H2msUe8dsYTEnZyjUxXp4KIyL5tCw/s1600/backyard+plan.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi63KRVkaw70m1OSh-_OQoGWgplJbuR78Tn9znmrkkLlZ1KAfng5WF2jInOykVGBcSO2FyqVgNm5pz7bTXgdNacIye9wSuEi4yHnn3BDTO6_SGLW0H2msUe8dsYTEnZyjUxXp4KIyL5tCw/s640/backyard+plan.png" width="640" /></a></div>
We want to reuse all our old pavers to save money. The pergola we just moved to a new location near the back wall. We are getting the red bricks for free from Dave's Uncle, and the windows and doors for the shed are also free recycled old finds.<br />
<br />
The grass and soil and labour will cost us about $1500. Plus any irrigation and other soil and plantings will be extra.<br />
<br />
We spent the weekend pulling up the pavers and leveling out the backyard. We got a 4 cubic meter skip bin to fill up. Also we spring cleaned the shed ready to be pulled down and moved.<br />
<br />
So it is all hands on deck at the moment as we want to get the lawn down before the weather cools down and before the landscaper goes away on holidays.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-fCOb1HdClFzPPx3WcneV8Pz7P9nGg_jktRcOnrnH-Me-OFMQkbNAeww6QqOI8yIgoTGjpOkjVeu7tY8X6HkrKM16Uf7GEp_-qdFV9Y8840adAG9Z_kG6eY305pjjFiwkohqzzIgGj4/s1600/20170303_192944.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-fCOb1HdClFzPPx3WcneV8Pz7P9nGg_jktRcOnrnH-Me-OFMQkbNAeww6QqOI8yIgoTGjpOkjVeu7tY8X6HkrKM16Uf7GEp_-qdFV9Y8840adAG9Z_kG6eY305pjjFiwkohqzzIgGj4/s640/20170303_192944.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr2629GYuwnnB3y5zpajaiypd8L8hniNNruCGdvUnyQER7tHQ2h0pasouxJ_dUo9-78EEtQE_5gxZ6VtpWncYIt8TqGgZft3u4D1BitCKzNp1EJoFTMFeLHnBRReLTvXjExY8kkRmRXho/s1600/20170303_192953.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr2629GYuwnnB3y5zpajaiypd8L8hniNNruCGdvUnyQER7tHQ2h0pasouxJ_dUo9-78EEtQE_5gxZ6VtpWncYIt8TqGgZft3u4D1BitCKzNp1EJoFTMFeLHnBRReLTvXjExY8kkRmRXho/s640/20170303_192953.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Feels good to be doing some hard labour again. Well for me, probably not for Dave.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
So, I had a plan that I wanted to turn the old wardrobe in the laundry (that only had hanging space) into my new linen cupboard. Makes sense having the linen in the laundry instead of the kitchen area as it previously was.<br />
<br />
Here is the old linen cupboard which was over flowing:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrJQL733lX31VaB7t9IOYZ2MT9oO5QW3axhEsHLAkROWFfGwLyz_AfN2fmbzLFceoh9F7RGR8S1BUGQo0T0f-mncyP7AZxoMbpTCwtGLuPT4nwqs15w1xgy4bhmuBNZjmzhtVAhDi4308/s1600/20150121_151521.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrJQL733lX31VaB7t9IOYZ2MT9oO5QW3axhEsHLAkROWFfGwLyz_AfN2fmbzLFceoh9F7RGR8S1BUGQo0T0f-mncyP7AZxoMbpTCwtGLuPT4nwqs15w1xgy4bhmuBNZjmzhtVAhDi4308/s640/20150121_151521.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
And this is the wardrobe in the laundry. I needed some space for the ironing board and vacuum cleaning as well as the sheets and towels.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvVREemE_A77JIiQ0jyxKyq2GHlTvK4J1cfcNvrYDpsJtG8dZAj0zk2ENbOfSJ7lmnDmkeSV8cELUDSOjDCBMCcJOMN0mEsmcQP3BJGzTRRubsYTS7XjHR76l-DfwBtXH_SY-0QChAgzQ/s1600/20170121_141223.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvVREemE_A77JIiQ0jyxKyq2GHlTvK4J1cfcNvrYDpsJtG8dZAj0zk2ENbOfSJ7lmnDmkeSV8cELUDSOjDCBMCcJOMN0mEsmcQP3BJGzTRRubsYTS7XjHR76l-DfwBtXH_SY-0QChAgzQ/s640/20170121_141223.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
So in a few hours, Dave whipped up this for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnbHVvcXefzzTib1kI-muJ5mhCv6CSdkWEbGtRJwH3QabjOal4COhLlFQFJ4tvehhUEmMcZp4Atlx4X_0sm1tPRVkU8ZePXXCmyVG5iUFDQ4P2afbyPJS2_lhlkvc9Zpa0VVKSItOInGA/s1600/20170121_154642.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnbHVvcXefzzTib1kI-muJ5mhCv6CSdkWEbGtRJwH3QabjOal4COhLlFQFJ4tvehhUEmMcZp4Atlx4X_0sm1tPRVkU8ZePXXCmyVG5iUFDQ4P2afbyPJS2_lhlkvc9Zpa0VVKSItOInGA/s640/20170121_154642.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCJdyHRPZhK9wz9tX0HEr6d9sJVnjD6bpr73hp7Qp4RMHzbCnMwp-m2AjrTOqIXDeGco6gqPJ9PD-K9x8wHpZtF1CV1zYHQJ07HRKuAHUwO7oxCRzbqnR_5jmRh17g1GowRTecEQQTrLM/s1600/20170121_155956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCJdyHRPZhK9wz9tX0HEr6d9sJVnjD6bpr73hp7Qp4RMHzbCnMwp-m2AjrTOqIXDeGco6gqPJ9PD-K9x8wHpZtF1CV1zYHQJ07HRKuAHUwO7oxCRzbqnR_5jmRh17g1GowRTecEQQTrLM/s640/20170121_155956.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
The ironing board and brooms can fit on the left and the vacuum goes under the bottom shelf.<br />
So then the old linen cupboard as empty and ready to be extra pantry storage. Which with 3 kids was very much in need.<br />

Feels like a breath of fresh air to have room in the cupboards now. Also, I put all the kids snacks and cereals down the bottom so they can make their own food when required. No excuses!<br />

I am so thrilled!!<br />
<br />
You know how sometimes you picture how things will look, then after some time you forget and then doubt yourself. Well I was worried that the new couches wouldn't look good. I shouldn't have worried as they look even better than I expected.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlIs0IGG3Q9hiEMPrez9NH4z1jlEWHXcuYiiCPckOQwTj8y0ncGiE2ogQFNdK_407NppdSpXoXK4NwpRLfGz894YqOxMNwk55HYnl8PyK0T-oMSR_TtHmXjkmc8R83jgniuPybwMkEVQ/s1600/IMG_20161206_103901.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlIs0IGG3Q9hiEMPrez9NH4z1jlEWHXcuYiiCPckOQwTj8y0ncGiE2ogQFNdK_407NppdSpXoXK4NwpRLfGz894YqOxMNwk55HYnl8PyK0T-oMSR_TtHmXjkmc8R83jgniuPybwMkEVQ/s640/IMG_20161206_103901.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
The material colour blends so well with the blue of the bookshelves and the blue above the fireplace. Here is a close up of the fabric. It is called navy but has a woven texture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit1dflSf_aLG7YnyqyIXvLMzC5usMzkI8sz23zrzRN3z0BfQBRebEjDCighglXxkU4S0wQM4hyphenhyphenq_WiMySZgNCOR-aSLEqHS3PU0eaPb4QbpS216Bvc_t_n5i3DONSncWv-hFP3uqe4el0/s1600/20161206_171255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEit1dflSf_aLG7YnyqyIXvLMzC5usMzkI8sz23zrzRN3z0BfQBRebEjDCighglXxkU4S0wQM4hyphenhyphenq_WiMySZgNCOR-aSLEqHS3PU0eaPb4QbpS216Bvc_t_n5i3DONSncWv-hFP3uqe4el0/s640/20161206_171255.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
The comfort level is crazy. They are so easy to sit on and firm enough that you can still get out with ease. Will be great for my Mum when she comes. The kids love lying on them and they are so big that even Dave can lie down and still have some feet space.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1dalfmk7qMu3G_UWywPEoK01o8QQtRlPNyihuEt0n8X_GGc7VpOmR6a7k2hsygC6J0aARdrkxfMWpVcfEy6qCsvmLS3_QISusSQlXLJT42AwJ5DVCKy5rBoANVjVe5WwXdMXKtKYJr8g/s1600/20161206_171304.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1dalfmk7qMu3G_UWywPEoK01o8QQtRlPNyihuEt0n8X_GGc7VpOmR6a7k2hsygC6J0aARdrkxfMWpVcfEy6qCsvmLS3_QISusSQlXLJT42AwJ5DVCKy5rBoANVjVe5WwXdMXKtKYJr8g/s640/20161206_171304.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The rug is pretty standard, but again looks great in the room. The kids said they liked how it felt kinda bumpy under their socks. I don't even fancy putting cushions on them I kinda like them plain, but we will see.<br />
<br />
Oh and here you can see the finished drawers and handles on the built in TV unit. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS5C2WDTkw5xx_yiBhkR3TfI5FZHTR0loUjipO1RbRnZJyhDFOL6a_TYLN-3fhv0GSow38-KI9Cdlh6d-fsenwNYONLv55TaGi5QRJa7aAwWZeHSBym3QiW8-BOoNWP38_VaU_dqRar6M/s1600/20161206_171643.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS5C2WDTkw5xx_yiBhkR3TfI5FZHTR0loUjipO1RbRnZJyhDFOL6a_TYLN-3fhv0GSow38-KI9Cdlh6d-fsenwNYONLv55TaGi5QRJa7aAwWZeHSBym3QiW8-BOoNWP38_VaU_dqRar6M/s640/20161206_171643.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So happy I found these couches. If anyone is interested, they are called Grand Lodge by Freedom.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

I feel so bad for Dave. He thought that installing the drawers handles (all 14 of them) would be simple and take him only 1 hour. Instead, once he looked at the drawers, he realised that there was an issue. I wanted the handles at the top of the drawers, however this meant that they would hit the drawer carcass on the other side. So he had to take off every drawer front, drill the holes, counter sink the screws, attach the handle then reattach the drawer front to the carcass. So more like a 3 hour job.<br />
<br />
But by the end of Saturday morning they were all done. I think they look marvellous and just like I imagined.<br />

We have a new edition to the furniture family.<br />
<br />
Please give a warm welcome to Mr Chair! Not the same Mr Chair as in The Goldbergs but our own version.<br />
<br />
We had to find a dining chair that had a high seat as the new dining table Dave made is higher than most. So after a lot of web surfing (and even considering buying a stool and cutting it down) I found this on Ebay of all places.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWjkOIGlXfv2Eq0Z6dEG85n3lnA11G1m233Wx3nNyLAw9Xb_kL3uM0-5xk2GUPmgfUpZPg_tE3AfxUsuYg15tAPf7s6Q-zDC_qBXLz94EaDT4RzGgbS206v6iTUVn3wa2Fxib5uXDYawI/s1600/Capture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWjkOIGlXfv2Eq0Z6dEG85n3lnA11G1m233Wx3nNyLAw9Xb_kL3uM0-5xk2GUPmgfUpZPg_tE3AfxUsuYg15tAPf7s6Q-zDC_qBXLz94EaDT4RzGgbS206v6iTUVn3wa2Fxib5uXDYawI/s320/Capture.JPG" width="317" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Best part it was only $139 delivered. And it came in a few days. This will be Dave's chair I think. He fits in perfectly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Hooray for the Black Friday sales.<br />
<br />
I have had my eye on a extra large Jute rug at Freedom for a few weeks now. I need a larger rug to go under the new couches in the living area and it is hard to get a large enough one.<br />
<br />
I have ordered the Madras Jute rug 250 x 350 cm from Freedom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOv-knk_trNHxKSOwcmlVuC1b4t5O8TGkCSw8tG54Bt9hlysRzN45gIpneGELuHiwP1hCjnvAhH-NkHMii6SRplfTzHD14VeVaf-SY2oOMxtPb5LAaskAnhxTZjobCDbfINen1RA-Soxw/s1600/MADRAS-250x350cm-rug_1of1_220x220.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="410" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOv-knk_trNHxKSOwcmlVuC1b4t5O8TGkCSw8tG54Bt9hlysRzN45gIpneGELuHiwP1hCjnvAhH-NkHMii6SRplfTzHD14VeVaf-SY2oOMxtPb5LAaskAnhxTZjobCDbfINen1RA-Soxw/s640/MADRAS-250x350cm-rug_1of1_220x220.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
As you can see, it is normally $549 RRP. As a MyFreedom member I always get a 15% discount anyway. So with the sales taking off 30% and the my 15% member discount and then I had a $50 birthday voucher, it came down to $306.85.<br />
<br />
Got to be happy with that. Also I asked if they could add it on to my <a href="http://landhousereno.blogspot.in/2016/09/new-couches.html">couch delivery</a> and they didn't even charge me any extra delivery fee. Woo hoo!!<br />
<br />
Now as I haven't seen it in person, I just hope it goes ok with our couches.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://landhousereno.blogspot.in/2016/09/new-couches.html">couches </a>and rug should come the first week in December. Not long to wait now.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<br />
Have I told you how amazing my Husbands is lately??<br />
<br />
This man..... he is brilliant.<br />
<br />
Yesterday he made me this dining table. The top is made from recycled Messmate fro Urban Salvage and the bottom is a mix of messmate, blackbutt and another hardwood. Total cost was about $550.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Saturday morning he prepared the table top and glued and clamped it together to set.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The timber was so hard that sometimes the nail gun failed to get through it, so we need to pull these out when it has all set in place. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is the start of the first leg (minus the feet). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we brought them inside ready to assemble. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjznEow_qdPaxXflu6wlH9udFj5JcZy8cfbN07LBMC78hJLauaHnP19S6GKaXQyJXUuDf973Q5EvPeSZdigeiji3KZKZXMAm3q4gLgoEaQviN-xnsgFrCUDMZXJWaC6AGppmrxvueeCQhw/s1600/IMG_20161120_165355.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjznEow_qdPaxXflu6wlH9udFj5JcZy8cfbN07LBMC78hJLauaHnP19S6GKaXQyJXUuDf973Q5EvPeSZdigeiji3KZKZXMAm3q4gLgoEaQviN-xnsgFrCUDMZXJWaC6AGppmrxvueeCQhw/s640/IMG_20161120_165355.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a bit of pulling all into square, we clamped it and screwed it together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nFS8lEtmMTuyioSgeAg93xMPAvWyLaemf3U3JWFUFS0r88TYZ6Ssew4wl3Dolc-btw9nm77C9AFXszg1cEI1Ha-Q37u79tILtboEoZRGVoRccqT6Gsc4Aposx1lant05rUflJM_xmUs/s1600/15068432_10157663316470005_3052665866201650661_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nFS8lEtmMTuyioSgeAg93xMPAvWyLaemf3U3JWFUFS0r88TYZ6Ssew4wl3Dolc-btw9nm77C9AFXszg1cEI1Ha-Q37u79tILtboEoZRGVoRccqT6Gsc4Aposx1lant05rUflJM_xmUs/s640/15068432_10157663316470005_3052665866201650661_o.jpg" width="360" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So now we need to wait til the glue dries before we can sand it and seal it. But how beautiful does it look? I can't stop looking at it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The previous weekend he put together most of the new coffee table. Again using recycled messmate timber. Here is one set of legs being glued and clamped.</div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then putting it together....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3y2XLOg5srJiNaSxf0NoJtDUKIz5Pq2Ebw6bZCK_-_Fq5oqb4MMbY4XSHpRnsqfc26JFzVGecKSoj0ruGsFiss9O9BKGcourq9BVtrcywhSu03YEdk9nMYZtwlDTP5bCdgAJ636P9XE/s1600/IMG_20161113_133345.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib3y2XLOg5srJiNaSxf0NoJtDUKIz5Pq2Ebw6bZCK_-_Fq5oqb4MMbY4XSHpRnsqfc26JFzVGecKSoj0ruGsFiss9O9BKGcourq9BVtrcywhSu03YEdk9nMYZtwlDTP5bCdgAJ636P9XE/s640/IMG_20161113_133345.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't have a proper after shot yet because he hasn't put the shelf underneath it yet and still needs to be sanded and sealed. My dorky kids loved being silly in the photo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGJ_Xn8ViVT-touSsvSut_2gUdGkASHCvpnHzJKS-u9ZhsYXNR8F4MR03LZjyU3T6jUsyELGrkiwnH69AftCrLp0TH_go1kfyyQisYmBJwJyRBbOfmoOKH0Zc5VIVZIpFgRZbb-QpVLcU/s1600/20161113_190600.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGJ_Xn8ViVT-touSsvSut_2gUdGkASHCvpnHzJKS-u9ZhsYXNR8F4MR03LZjyU3T6jUsyELGrkiwnH69AftCrLp0TH_go1kfyyQisYmBJwJyRBbOfmoOKH0Zc5VIVZIpFgRZbb-QpVLcU/s640/20161113_190600.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So next is the built in bench seat and the free standing bench seat. We are on a roll.<br />
<br />
In other works.... I am almost done with painting the staircase. Just 1 more top coat to go. Then I need to organise a carpet layer to lay the runner (or I might do it myself).<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

<br />
Such a long awaited and exciting day today. Cabinet day!<br />
<br />
At 7:30am this morning the boys from <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Wattle-Valley-Kitchens-388237261325076/?fref=ts">Wattle Valley Kitchen</a>s rocked up ready to install. And install they did! What great work and so professional and tidy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Let's just get to the pictures shall we?<br />
<br />
Here are the drawers for the fireplace seating going in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7yHiKn40y1dLuW1dm2WHfC3woLxTdOXobv8dgaqYi4cmVe8b_G3gX53nUBXb6KsSX0D3xoHBhiKIJ6zX81aIKhiZYNRYWgOPIMc2K4Wg7bEhEAOvNjRlfj9btxX7RBsVbtghcHz9YlWI/s1600/20161018_084821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7yHiKn40y1dLuW1dm2WHfC3woLxTdOXobv8dgaqYi4cmVe8b_G3gX53nUBXb6KsSX0D3xoHBhiKIJ6zX81aIKhiZYNRYWgOPIMc2K4Wg7bEhEAOvNjRlfj9btxX7RBsVbtghcHz9YlWI/s640/20161018_084821.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Here they are in. I have plans to make two of these filing drawers. Just need to tell Hubby how I want it done and watch the magic happen.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgURlzVpd9M-vhpeVGSvSqDT1egu1oGKyzj7TMxFHCJPutyifsJsTBLMm6WIKDMwpuTiRwVDyYJ_6DsyXYW59TYnWuX3vbcTpK2E7ei0u5HXeOOkHyynBvrwGpU_SLcHkpCeXO2Ec_Iuhk/s1600/20161018_093638.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgURlzVpd9M-vhpeVGSvSqDT1egu1oGKyzj7TMxFHCJPutyifsJsTBLMm6WIKDMwpuTiRwVDyYJ_6DsyXYW59TYnWuX3vbcTpK2E7ei0u5HXeOOkHyynBvrwGpU_SLcHkpCeXO2Ec_Iuhk/s640/20161018_093638.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Of course, I still need to paint them and put on some handles.<br />
<br />
Then came the laundry:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4IhjQG8UTPOJ7tBJoscfYlEiPLyfN95v4VPxTsJ9mm_Jj5aIXOkPv3pLqm6JLhULtthmUujbnbLXyykyexgTlOaOe9Xubha_vRrTZN0sXOtuSQG3hisAvi0w6u61h7-DFeWFCGblqIoM/s1600/20161018_131350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4IhjQG8UTPOJ7tBJoscfYlEiPLyfN95v4VPxTsJ9mm_Jj5aIXOkPv3pLqm6JLhULtthmUujbnbLXyykyexgTlOaOe9Xubha_vRrTZN0sXOtuSQG3hisAvi0w6u61h7-DFeWFCGblqIoM/s640/20161018_131350.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
So we need to decide on a splashback here. Oh my favourite part is the hamper drawers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrO5AUZ2zAxp_-bFDI4EV7G0TViDyUKt9YZqclxUgwQmfG7Y0eLtwGmmuKeuZxF0sFnW3LQO5liajqytk9IxHn7u2eh98w_x-XfQc276TPwE0xGYIuQo6up4EKI-hZg39_OOra-SIqC4I/s1600/20161018_175305.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrO5AUZ2zAxp_-bFDI4EV7G0TViDyUKt9YZqclxUgwQmfG7Y0eLtwGmmuKeuZxF0sFnW3LQO5liajqytk9IxHn7u2eh98w_x-XfQc276TPwE0xGYIuQo6up4EKI-hZg39_OOra-SIqC4I/s640/20161018_175305.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Upstairs they installed the drawers in Sammy's wardrobe (by the way they all have soft close hinges even though I asked for normal ones).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQSEJFwpVfeY1nyKhiwKtqrWPuShoqSBBLq7t-yT_jqDq8mqpDhyphenhypheneKPdsUYFj2aIJIufShQ_Ewo1gDW51CtRTs9ofObZ0w3StNusxTFwduGmwm8DwXh5LxicrS5pmLAXUYvwVfFg5FtSI/s1600/20161018_131422.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQSEJFwpVfeY1nyKhiwKtqrWPuShoqSBBLq7t-yT_jqDq8mqpDhyphenhypheneKPdsUYFj2aIJIufShQ_Ewo1gDW51CtRTs9ofObZ0w3StNusxTFwduGmwm8DwXh5LxicrS5pmLAXUYvwVfFg5FtSI/s640/20161018_131422.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Finally, today they installed the wardrobe in Andrew's bedroom.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrUq-ABYYhqP2IK6ikC4cXcvbC61N7ODVDDllk44fRILFO1rcF6S1VMSk69tJ64Qz1Ly7QnVfc02btvotbpEJzoz6FaZmwBiIX-RZmxwL1Ap0uuAEhN1EKa-MF1OTnLNTHikpvKLKEvBg/s1600/20161018_131408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrUq-ABYYhqP2IK6ikC4cXcvbC61N7ODVDDllk44fRILFO1rcF6S1VMSk69tJ64Qz1Ly7QnVfc02btvotbpEJzoz6FaZmwBiIX-RZmxwL1Ap0uuAEhN1EKa-MF1OTnLNTHikpvKLKEvBg/s640/20161018_131408.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
So happy it is all in place. Not looking forward to painting it all but I just have to remember how much money I am saving by painting them myself.<br />
<br />
Only problem, is that the laundry upper cabinets didn't extend all the way to the dryer, so they are making up another cabinet to go in that spot.<br />
<br />
I also, am trying to pick handles. That is tougher than you'd think.<br />
<br />
They measured up for the drawers and doors under the TV cabinet but not sure when they will be done. <br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

How nice is it to have our weekends back! Problem is, it doesn't give me much to blog about. We actually found ourselves feeling lost and not knowing what to do. As soon as I sat down to watch some footy, I felt guilty that I should be doing something on the house. It was a strange feeling.<br />
<br />
On Saturday morning we went couch shopping.<br />
<br />
In fact, last weekend we visited Pottery Barn and feel in love with a couch there called the Pearce sectional in Silver.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_XsgzUkNcq_JO3mqC6fN4nmlM44ofV21OIT5l1NcW6_wKOc4Ty94nyHu4GwyFIScMkj9Gu23UWt-pLv-nBap_8EVgpTfA4Ev_ggDGetdXDpT3cFtTrPFex3-7AzaYPFM69VQW6v4kGtw/s1600/20160904_124139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_XsgzUkNcq_JO3mqC6fN4nmlM44ofV21OIT5l1NcW6_wKOc4Ty94nyHu4GwyFIScMkj9Gu23UWt-pLv-nBap_8EVgpTfA4Ev_ggDGetdXDpT3cFtTrPFex3-7AzaYPFM69VQW6v4kGtw/s640/20160904_124139.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
So it was an L-shaped couch and had lots of space and lovely material and very comfy. Here is the picture from their website.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWBFcEabCdvVgNnt9s3D6109aAFE1qs5WnII63KEXePKcuar7xtwgxgsaVivQc5qYAHzcJ6uK2d_20j4Ug_qGAC-LuuRarRzwgsqMBeLdm3DH6lWK20WOBjHkXhFyf2lKQF3SacUo05Q/s1600/pb-7639347_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="576" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeWBFcEabCdvVgNnt9s3D6109aAFE1qs5WnII63KEXePKcuar7xtwgxgsaVivQc5qYAHzcJ6uK2d_20j4Ug_qGAC-LuuRarRzwgsqMBeLdm3DH6lWK20WOBjHkXhFyf2lKQF3SacUo05Q/s640/pb-7639347_z.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However the price was the scary part. It was retailing at $6354. Holy Moly. Imagine if the kids split something or the future dog ripped it. Eeek! Then a few days later, Pottery Barn advertised a 20% off sale. Taking it down to around $5084. Still lots of money but a bit better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I did some research online and came up with this problem.</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="How To Fix Smashed Couch Cushions" class="pinImg fullBleed loaded fade" height="640" src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/1a/63/57/1a635793b64a2b6669f0f8741608d103.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" width="327" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.honeywerehome.com/2015/06/how-to-fix-smashed-couch-cushions.html">Honey we're home</a></td></tr>

She showed her Pearce sectional and how the back cushions get mushed up and apparently only after a few months. Well..... this changed things. This would drive me crazy!!! And when you spend that much money you don't want to regret it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, we did a bit of looking online and in-store. I quite liked the Plush Sofas. My brother in law just ordered a Colt sectional as they have a 50% off sale at the moment. I really liked it but wasn't completely sold.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we ventured to Freedom at DFO in Essendon on Saturday. I currently have a Freedom sofa that Dad bought for me for my 21st Birthday (so about 17 years old now)...</div>

...and it still is in great condition. The current trend in sofas is mid-century modern, which really isn't our thing. We had a very helpful sales lady called Sabrina and after describing our space to her she helped us realised that we would be better off getting two plain 3 seater sofas. We were about to try looking in the other shops at DFO when I spied this beauty out of the corner of my eye.<br />

The name is the Grand Lodge (I also loved the name as it kinda matched my style). Then... I sat on it. <span style="font-size: large;">O.M.G</span>. It was the most comfy thing ever!!!! The back is a bit higher than the rest so it supports your neck and head. The seat isn't too deep, so you don't feel like you have to lean back. And the seat cushion was such that it supported your bum and lower back. It has nice wide and strong arms. And for a 3 seaters, it actually have 3 cushions (I don't like 3 seaters that only look like they have 2 seats, like my current couch does). It only comes in 3 fabrics (but also in leather.. mmmm nice) and we are getting it in a colour called "Colt Navy" which if you can imagine would be a light grey-bluish version of the one pictured. </div>

Here it is on the webpage.<br />

The price is RRP $1899 but if you join the My Freedom club you get it for $1614.15. So we got two and they will be made overseas and be here in 8 weeks. If any sales appear during that 8 weeks, we can get the price adjusted, so fingers crossed that there is a big sale.<br />
<br />
So that is kind of exciting and cool.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #e06666;"><b>ETA: It did come on sale and we got it for $1329.05 (but did delay it by 2 weeks. Oh well)</b></span><br />
<br />
As for the old couch, that will go upstairs in the kids playroom and be used for sleepovers as it is pretty big once you take off the back cushions.<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has a great week and Go Bulldogs!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

When we last left off, I mentioned that we were about to have the final building inspection. The good news is that we passed. So officially we are done!!<br />
<br />
Since this news, we have really taken it easy and haven't done a thing on the house. Even went for a day trip with the kids on Saturday for the first time in ages. It has been so nice and we are feeling so relaxed.<br />
<br />
We started to tidy up the garden on Sunday because the weather was amazing. I pruned all the roses and we cleared the front porch. I do need to get a new doormat now as the old one is filter with years of building dust in it.<br />
<br />
Speaking of doormats.... I picked up this cutie today for inside the laundry door.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6JxupOxxBU9PkapEAQKR5Bu4A2ugjECVlSidH1Szw25sVFNtsIv0KIMRo2BQDr6LlGetkuRnWN_OU3coszyyG5u4ATseuPMTXduTyZD7vQjR423ymJrlIn7OF4r5EwzRLvoAnJo3Yoc/s1600/IMG_20160831_104408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6JxupOxxBU9PkapEAQKR5Bu4A2ugjECVlSidH1Szw25sVFNtsIv0KIMRo2BQDr6LlGetkuRnWN_OU3coszyyG5u4ATseuPMTXduTyZD7vQjR423ymJrlIn7OF4r5EwzRLvoAnJo3Yoc/s640/IMG_20160831_104408.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We still need to wait for the cabinetry (they are saying November now) but we are delaying the kitchen cabinets until we save up some money to replace all the doors at the same time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cheers,</div>

Hello, it is going to be another warm day today, albeit very windy. Good for washing the dust off the winter blankets.<br />
<br />
So, last post I mentioned that we put the kitchen benchtop back on. Here she is:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1xLOQBqr4w0oMA8p5fl1yO3gkyHrPRfExzOyHUupwKOKAT-Cqie3-BzKIOmHGpF6csbx0gt8NZEO7vngPqNNmh2xwNnxhgqE_IOrseQJ-x3YX6_zu39_wRZJo2KF3sZ5L8Nrdd2D8zM/s1600/20160817_144344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1xLOQBqr4w0oMA8p5fl1yO3gkyHrPRfExzOyHUupwKOKAT-Cqie3-BzKIOmHGpF6csbx0gt8NZEO7vngPqNNmh2xwNnxhgqE_IOrseQJ-x3YX6_zu39_wRZJo2KF3sZ5L8Nrdd2D8zM/s640/20160817_144344.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2G1I3XQKkbr7F0ydKyOsJaUXC6oIBFNIin_yiGymARPyUf9OREZrFHZ35YfTcGBzR4Xv6USbD89fomWUNAJgQYl-__pb1m0uGscgxsEiHmONMHuxWOyuEeluR3wRgH3-dp6Vtfl_gDs/s1600/20160817_144432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2G1I3XQKkbr7F0ydKyOsJaUXC6oIBFNIin_yiGymARPyUf9OREZrFHZ35YfTcGBzR4Xv6USbD89fomWUNAJgQYl-__pb1m0uGscgxsEiHmONMHuxWOyuEeluR3wRgH3-dp6Vtfl_gDs/s640/20160817_144432.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
You have no idea how brilliant it is to have work space again. That old door was just impossible to keep clean, let alone cut anything on.<br />
<br />
When we redo the kitchen, this benchtop will be made smaller, because you can see that it is too long the get past on each side. So we will lose 2 stools but by that time we will have a dining table (hopefully).<br />
<br />
The plan is still to get the final inspection done on Monday. I have chased up all the compliance certificates and they are ready to show.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh46wG9OM8nREd5HQotA8MXXM448DIHNNvv5OIkNnzQiLjBNlhXmtXJyfF4orSFMeWlDiNl3Sm0IXt_FJjRff6AcUa1rEEshiEYyaDVuw6q3PN4vZMYh6dKtNcrvvpRUwW3KoBc-GKr_o8/s1600/20160817_144201.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh46wG9OM8nREd5HQotA8MXXM448DIHNNvv5OIkNnzQiLjBNlhXmtXJyfF4orSFMeWlDiNl3Sm0IXt_FJjRff6AcUa1rEEshiEYyaDVuw6q3PN4vZMYh6dKtNcrvvpRUwW3KoBc-GKr_o8/s640/20160817_144201.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It seems so long ago that we were chasing up the startup paperwork. So much better to be doing the final paperwork!!!!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Firstly... how beautiful was it in Melbourne yesterday; and again today. It really feels like Spring will be here soon.<br />
<br />
We did a few things to the house on the weekend. One thing was that Dave built the landing and step for outside the laundry door.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Almost done. Just need to put on some plinths.</td></tr>

Luckily we had enough decking boards left over so this was a cheap addition.<br />
<br />
This had to be done in order to pass the inspection. Speaking of inspection, I overheard David say that he hopes this can get done this week!! That would be the final inspection and our house is officially done in the eyes of the council. Cue flashback...<br />
<br />
Where were we 3 years ago? Well we were up <a href="http://landhousereno.blogspot.in/2013/08/one-small-step.html">fed up with all the paperwork</a>. We were about to hand in the papers to apply for the owner builder permit.<br />

So happy we are not back at that stage, but also it was so exciting back then.<br />

Holy moly! It feels like a totally new house now.<br />
<br />
Last week we moved out of our place for 3 nights whilst the floors got sanded and polished.<br />

We stayed up the road in some cute cabins at a caravan park and I must say, I enjoyed it more than I should have. It felt like a mini holiday even though we were still going to work and school and were 5 mins away from our house.<br />

I now have a whole new appreciation for our house. It looks, and feels, so different. There is something about getting the floors done, be it timber, tile or carpet, that completely changes the feel of a space and instantly makes it feel complete.<br />
<br />
The only gripe I have is that I asked him to put the darker filler in the nail holes. Even gave him the one that I used. But he used his lighter one and now I can see light spots on the floor, whereas the darker one was pretty much invisible. Still, from a distance they looks great. He did use the dark one in the hallway so that does look amazing! We used <a href="http://www.bona.net.au/HomeOwners/Products11/TrafficHD2.aspx?cat=Coatings">Bona Traffic HD </a>in matt finish.<br />

And I have also been prepping and painting the architraves and skirtings in the kitchen and laundry. It is looks so fresh and clean now.<br />
<br />
Also on the weekend we went dishwasher shopping. I have been without one for about 3 months or so and gee I have missed it. We used to have an Electrolux Dishlex. It was never that great and the last few years has really been playing up. I did my research and people were all saying that the ones that washed well and were reliable were Bosch, Miele and Asko. We ended up with an Asko as it was a special for $300 off which brought it down the price of the Bosch I wanted. I have used it twice so far and am very impressed. Hoping it will last us 20 years.<br />

Dave installed it and saved us $100.<br />
<br />
Only other things happening at the moment are, the building of a step and landing outside the laundry door, and more painting inside.<br />
<br />
Oh and I forgot one other thing that we did (with the help of a strong fit neighbour), we moved the stone benchtop back into the kitchen. So instead of having an old door as my work surface, I now have my wonderfully smooth bench back! LOVE!<br />
<br />
Now we just need to save money and wait for the cabinetry.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

This weekend we worked our butts off.<br />
<br />
I was given the challenge a few weeks ago (by Dave) to have the kitchen area all painted by the 1st of August when the floors were getting sanded. I had been doing the prep (filling holes, sanding etc) for a few weeks and this weekend I wanted to smash out the rest. I didn't think I could, but I did it! So I painted the ceiling with a fresh coat of ceiling white and I did the walls in Valspar Montpelier. Just didn't do the trims yet. Also I painted the kitchen window black on the inside and spray painted the fly screen to match (not pictured).<br />
<br />
Sorry the photos are so bad. Not sure what is going on with the camera on my phone. <br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3GulAoKslHEmx8RRZQ6N7n0jYN9PpfV5xNjAG24hx8hyF9O1KwNA8uczMnvfYq2iGjSKsIs82P394NBj3kGyUwlXKrl_oDA8PylDq_Qiguy0IuPeatQ0Lo-7YvF_GvIojB8ll-8rdpfc/s1600/20160731_165239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3GulAoKslHEmx8RRZQ6N7n0jYN9PpfV5xNjAG24hx8hyF9O1KwNA8uczMnvfYq2iGjSKsIs82P394NBj3kGyUwlXKrl_oDA8PylDq_Qiguy0IuPeatQ0Lo-7YvF_GvIojB8ll-8rdpfc/s640/20160731_165239.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
He then top nailed the floor and punched all the holes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0toQdBKwHFviQQ2bXzESL9hhnjk3okzfANih8yM8gfKHG6k6qmPnDaIs_v8AeMitZ4g9J5GkLfPpsPTDVKoIxVMql_TWk3uPmbMQPaOVfxXXdmiPYH6IQC7WOCRUOJf7S1K_sUyq9Tco/s1600/20160730_165059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0toQdBKwHFviQQ2bXzESL9hhnjk3okzfANih8yM8gfKHG6k6qmPnDaIs_v8AeMitZ4g9J5GkLfPpsPTDVKoIxVMql_TWk3uPmbMQPaOVfxXXdmiPYH6IQC7WOCRUOJf7S1K_sUyq9Tco/s640/20160730_165059.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Even under the stairs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGfEsD2qL_bAdrXean40_MSjGsF1kJCNb9BtQYQESzAP384CcjhUK3Q9upHLeBTsDWAhWVnHKY41ZcrRpYaymkmzuooA8cHUjutv6tRJXsWPHAxR5zQlC6kLBScANiIeuCnRyE1kUqXTk/s1600/20160730_173327.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGfEsD2qL_bAdrXean40_MSjGsF1kJCNb9BtQYQESzAP384CcjhUK3Q9upHLeBTsDWAhWVnHKY41ZcrRpYaymkmzuooA8cHUjutv6tRJXsWPHAxR5zQlC6kLBScANiIeuCnRyE1kUqXTk/s640/20160730_173327.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
There was flooring that still had to be laid in the small linen cupboard and under the dishwasher, which is broken, so we removed it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoD_tSjs_U2Z7AVsV7Ew0zmD10PGfcdp0UcDh_Zo379DlAMfVMzojWpM5TV52IfitZ9C3XyQXeB8szFyxE2cA3ZPYQPyvH9O3Y8v4WkFxqt9DnXTFWxF6ymANKU_p8Dl8s7_KsF3M5cOs/s1600/20160731_165255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoD_tSjs_U2Z7AVsV7Ew0zmD10PGfcdp0UcDh_Zo379DlAMfVMzojWpM5TV52IfitZ9C3XyQXeB8szFyxE2cA3ZPYQPyvH9O3Y8v4WkFxqt9DnXTFWxF6ymANKU_p8Dl8s7_KsF3M5cOs/s640/20160731_165255.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
He hung up the dryer temporarily so it was out of the way and put the washing machine in the bathroom again.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXbDV8349aT0SqsmBP_TOBrdGrQURUqTSICYVAMGmJA0oDms59ZcORKaah-xf8coLl6P-Cchi8JGN2O6DCBO46gZv-ZgYKko__FkpRUjDLh4Gvd91uC9EDt3hXCpXyjo8JRzSaoMCB5zg/s1600/20160731_165219.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXbDV8349aT0SqsmBP_TOBrdGrQURUqTSICYVAMGmJA0oDms59ZcORKaah-xf8coLl6P-Cchi8JGN2O6DCBO46gZv-ZgYKko__FkpRUjDLh4Gvd91uC9EDt3hXCpXyjo8JRzSaoMCB5zg/s640/20160731_165219.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
He also added the weatherboards to the gable on the roof. No way I am getting up there to paint that though.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAXEmTbQ72BGy7awwrHvPDwycSqOB1oDEpgkb7xmzdnVKkJkHLhcIeHk5BWybuU2Dz_-j8PFKl8Tpctb6JtMkAl3GaOf4OLhUpqU-iY7AZrdSpku8xk0CeUxRlzRvQEgt4DuPMzdFFR9w/s1600/20160731_165137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAXEmTbQ72BGy7awwrHvPDwycSqOB1oDEpgkb7xmzdnVKkJkHLhcIeHk5BWybuU2Dz_-j8PFKl8Tpctb6JtMkAl3GaOf4OLhUpqU-iY7AZrdSpku8xk0CeUxRlzRvQEgt4DuPMzdFFR9w/s640/20160731_165137.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
So while the floors are getting done this week, we are staying around the corner in some cabins. This means we are forced to have a renovating break for this time. How nice!!<br />
<br />
Can't wait to see the finished product later in the week.<br />
Stay tuned!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Another weekend down and more jobs ticked off the list. Hooray!<br />
<br />
During the week, the electrician came back to do a few jobs.<br />
1) He moved the kitchen pendants to the new position over the island bench.<br />

3) He reattached the powerpoint to the microwave under the island so we could move the microwave back into place.<br />
4) He replaced a faulty powerpoint; and<br />
5) He moved the light switch in Andrew's bedroom so we can install his wardrobe.<br />
<br />
On Saturday, the plasterer came to fix holes in the walls.<br />
1) He fixed the laundry, where we had to cut out for the pipe problem in the new shower.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2) He added cornice to the top of the cabinetry in the lounge room. </div>

3) He covered the holes in the kitchen ceilig where the pendants used to be; and<br />
4) He patched up the main bathroom where the door used to be before we moved it.<br />
<br />
I promised some photos of the window film that I put on. Not very exciting but had to be done to pass inspection.<br />

Hopefully during the week, we can finished hanging up the dryer in the laundry. We have the hole cut where we need to vent it, see...<br />

Then on the weekend, I did two coats of paint on the hallway. Which I changed the colour for. The other one was too dark. I am glad we did a test before we did the whole room. It is now the same as the colour upstairs and in the living room. However, it looks so much greyer in this south facing hallway.<br />

We are hoping to get in touch with the kitchen cabinet people today. Cross your fingers they call us back.<br />

Gee, I just realised that I haven't done and update in ages. I am getting slack with the blog as we are nearing the end. I may have even heard Hubby say last night that it should be ready for final inspection in 6 weeks!! Of course that don't include things like painting and finished cabinets, but after the building works have finished we can take our time with the rest and get our weekends back whenever we want without a time pressure over our heads.<br />
<br />
Last weekend I decided I should start to prep the hallway for painting. Currently it is a pale yellow, which I don't mind at all but just not in keeping with the rest now.<br />
Before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_1FtjnFvo1cupw5mqeaAAovYJxBQUY9bs04F5ssjYcTng-pO2yErFu54xQrwa1IFHoghzd0ll9fe6mDlvqxIl8_ELb0G-i4bHYmUpmd_6UKqz9f7mGMA_8GRZgJA_mUJ4D5rWxqCQODo/s1600/P1030648.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_1FtjnFvo1cupw5mqeaAAovYJxBQUY9bs04F5ssjYcTng-pO2yErFu54xQrwa1IFHoghzd0ll9fe6mDlvqxIl8_ELb0G-i4bHYmUpmd_6UKqz9f7mGMA_8GRZgJA_mUJ4D5rWxqCQODo/s640/P1030648.JPG" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First thing I needed to do was to replace the light fitting. But on asking Dave, the answer was no. So I resorted to spray painting it Oil-Rubbed Bronze. At least then it wouldn't be gold anymore.</div>

Then I filled and sanded the skirts and archs and gave them a coat of undercoat/sealer. The colour that I chose for the hallway (and kitchen) is a Sherwin-Williams colour called Repose Grey.<br />

Wow! This weekend was COLD in Melbourne town. Brrrr.. I had to get the ice off my car window this morning and froze watching my son play Footy this morning. Yesterday, during the morning and early afternoon, the weather was more tolerable, so Heidi helped me start oiling the bottom and sides of the decking boards.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjco2OGqh-XyHybXi8VEIgD1DlwIt9GDJ9iF1EUhCBMDNWgqTKTLxVG77bbLdbXOh_kxos-QQQG-in6Edll2mhS_dziSnz7o61J_r8mme2zdNoqwPj7MqFK2_je4IsNgnO_P-g-TQVEXEE/s1600/20160625_142131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjco2OGqh-XyHybXi8VEIgD1DlwIt9GDJ9iF1EUhCBMDNWgqTKTLxVG77bbLdbXOh_kxos-QQQG-in6Edll2mhS_dziSnz7o61J_r8mme2zdNoqwPj7MqFK2_je4IsNgnO_P-g-TQVEXEE/s640/20160625_142131.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
We used this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlyRSrN0cdSYN0zjz3lU25oDidOTlw7Hw_BzsFD9oJieF7zaeTBaxRy8yEj8cQ6x94T6T5dvFpqUFbRjpmcXWRcJr3C45E9H76_cOm876xJf1IggLs2R7DdEow0Dw7r0sZ2AjS-C_36Es/s1600/20160625_135228.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlyRSrN0cdSYN0zjz3lU25oDidOTlw7Hw_BzsFD9oJieF7zaeTBaxRy8yEj8cQ6x94T6T5dvFpqUFbRjpmcXWRcJr3C45E9H76_cOm876xJf1IggLs2R7DdEow0Dw7r0sZ2AjS-C_36Es/s640/20160625_135228.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Dave painted all the joists black as required by our surveyor to protect from the weather and water sitting on the joists. We just used Wattyl Solargaurd.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3iqD-7OwR6wiF18G7gpoPjMDnMxjM-mg8rfR_oxgmayXv70jW6EF-Vg3mvnBhxXosXD7R4sY4-7Z2UHosdx2XU5PNQq8waRECn_nvULO8SetSD52qZxrkq5J_N-zRLvaQotWxvueFc_U/s1600/20160625_135214.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3iqD-7OwR6wiF18G7gpoPjMDnMxjM-mg8rfR_oxgmayXv70jW6EF-Vg3mvnBhxXosXD7R4sY4-7Z2UHosdx2XU5PNQq8waRECn_nvULO8SetSD52qZxrkq5J_N-zRLvaQotWxvueFc_U/s640/20160625_135214.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
Then he started laying them. Didn't get very far though because we ran out of room to layout the boards for painting. But we got this many done (sorry for the bad photo) and during the week I will try to paint more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Not much on this week. It is school holidays so I guess I will be entertaining the kids on my days off rather than renovating. Hopefully though we get the next cabinet quote in during the week.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

My goodness, where did the weekend go? I think I blinked and missed it. Friday night, the surveyor came and gave us the ok on the deck frame. Phew! Poor Dave had to work on Saturday so he didn't get any work done on our house. He spent all day today doing the scribers on the outside windows out the back and in the blind sideway.<br />
<br />
But the most exciting part was that the drawers were finished off for our ensuite vanity. I just need to pick some handles now and it is pretty much done. However, at some stage we still need to put a dado rail along the top of the tiles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here are some of the scribers on the outside windows. It really finishes off the architraves so professionally and no spaces for spiders to hide behind.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2B_Tbg7LfupGXKKHxfvCr-fwcAAgf3Ympi9vlizYP1I-DyROjq2MiFLLKjr-ceHqXVc6CADsn-OjSoIM3zg3Red4hTQh9qljLUvsm9x0nEUQt8-Imfhsi9HQNI7YjG_NJN8bs2NUvqVA/s1600/20160619_145020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2B_Tbg7LfupGXKKHxfvCr-fwcAAgf3Ympi9vlizYP1I-DyROjq2MiFLLKjr-ceHqXVc6CADsn-OjSoIM3zg3Red4hTQh9qljLUvsm9x0nEUQt8-Imfhsi9HQNI7YjG_NJN8bs2NUvqVA/s640/20160619_145020.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The finish on the top looked really nice and rustic, but it was so nice and smooth and would be easy to wipe down. I might have to find out if they do a smaller one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Tuesday, we have a guy coming out to take a look at the cabinetry we need for the laundry, kitchen and then all the drawers and wardrobes that we need. We already got one quote and it was about $10k which I didn't think was too bad, but if this guys cane do it cheaper, I wont complain. If he could, then we could get nicer counter tops and change the existing kitchen doors.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cheers,</div>

Hello, how's it going? Winter has set in now and I am enjoying the little luxuries I am allowed in winter. Like hot teas full of delishious spices, scrummt toasted sandwiches and hot chocolates in front of the fire. I even bought a kit of S'mores for the first time to try on the weekend.<br />
<br />
Last weekend I didn't do a thing on the reno as I had Mum visiting from Tassie and staying in Heidi's room. So we spent time with her. However, David did get a few things done. He worked on the back deck and some window trim and skirting around the pillars under the stairs.<br />

This afternoon at 4pm, the surveyor is coming around to do the inspection on the deck frame. Then if that passes and when the new boards have acclimatised, we can lay the deck!! Woo hoo!<br />
<br />
We are still waiting to hear back from a cabinet maker about the laundry and other cabinets that we need made. Why must people be so slow?<br />
<br />
Anyway, happy weekend everyone,<br />

Ok so the ceiling over the back deck took longer than expected. But considering how long it took us to do the <a href="http://landhousereno.blogspot.in/2015/03/the-living-room-ceiling.html">living room ceiling</a>, we should be surprised.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEF5aOCXKPy1fumbz7KImAIkB3DilUx8FbWQ6sbg4iAVRzDm8fX8T3B-kURs_03YdbSaxWPOxASpoelICrOL4WJe7DFI_BjR7bsIKAGCqVvEdaOC16kxMxMmqvJ8zB57J2FucrabZzPU/s1600/20160606_082607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEF5aOCXKPy1fumbz7KImAIkB3DilUx8FbWQ6sbg4iAVRzDm8fX8T3B-kURs_03YdbSaxWPOxASpoelICrOL4WJe7DFI_BjR7bsIKAGCqVvEdaOC16kxMxMmqvJ8zB57J2FucrabZzPU/s640/20160606_082607.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
It does look good though. Still need to do the edging though. <br />
<br />
Therefore, we didn't do any work on the actual deck. Hopefully get some more framing done during the week. But here are some of the boards laying out. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And this is the whole picture at the moment.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So winter has arrived in Melbourne and our desire to hibernate and enjoy hot chocolates around the fireplace is growing. However, there is still some work getting done around the house. We try to do bits are pieces when we get a chance. Like, while the roast chicken was in the oven on Tuesday evening, I painted another coat of black satin paint on the laundry door. Then after dinner Dave did some gapping between skirting boards and architraves in preparation for painting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had a delivery of timber too. This is the Mahogany decking boards for the back deck. Maybe we will get some of these down on the weekend.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSSqzVrIX_ABeUztF3J5bt8aX2l2IMC5ltn0N-H5bG8GucWrt-BhjE3oPZB166GQAyTDiiolJKl88JOjXz9Pr3jHGfo8ruxIxF_tszkqM7eCj-bVJcGLbk6z6e3pfNWz4rzrC_ydP2U2U/s1600/20160601_163505.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSSqzVrIX_ABeUztF3J5bt8aX2l2IMC5ltn0N-H5bG8GucWrt-BhjE3oPZB166GQAyTDiiolJKl88JOjXz9Pr3jHGfo8ruxIxF_tszkqM7eCj-bVJcGLbk6z6e3pfNWz4rzrC_ydP2U2U/s640/20160601_163505.jpg" width="640" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
During the week after work, Dave also managed to get some of the lining boards up on the ceiling above the deck. This is going to look so nice once it is done. I think I might even have a try of spray painting this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWuSDxM3KfNBrAKhEtCC2vgzKyUc6zYQvRb_nRXLOSisP6BqBOL0DjB4NcqWVftbcbltgSnAUs6fPCzAvAwTnHoPBMNH70ABs_I2sYHFQN7fRph_tJjPZCK3tPtyqnkyCL1LzKJW-DJg/s1600/20160601_163423.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbWuSDxM3KfNBrAKhEtCC2vgzKyUc6zYQvRb_nRXLOSisP6BqBOL0DjB4NcqWVftbcbltgSnAUs6fPCzAvAwTnHoPBMNH70ABs_I2sYHFQN7fRph_tJjPZCK3tPtyqnkyCL1LzKJW-DJg/s640/20160601_163423.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
We are still trying to get hold of Dave's brother who was meant to put the drawers on the bathroom vanity but he is hiding apparently. Don't blame him, he he.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Firstly look at my pretty basin!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwLS22EuBnetJY0LSq_jExZNYV-WCNSP6_C71qzPcW_YQzD_TuFk1DJMtgwgNLJAIXkWsZszH9AWzOFCLjPL6_V51iArr_NcEgdhnLEGeOuvEXhzTZepvk9bY_YwUrugifw6s7HU9NW4w/s1600/20160522_183837.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwLS22EuBnetJY0LSq_jExZNYV-WCNSP6_C71qzPcW_YQzD_TuFk1DJMtgwgNLJAIXkWsZszH9AWzOFCLjPL6_V51iArr_NcEgdhnLEGeOuvEXhzTZepvk9bY_YwUrugifw6s7HU9NW4w/s640/20160522_183837.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It was Wednesday when the plumbers came back to fit off the ensuite. Also that same day the shower screen was installed. <br />
<br />
There was one hiccup though. Because the tilers put such thick grout under the tiles, the pipes for the shower mixer didn't stick through far enough to put the mixer on. So Dave had to cut through the new, freshly painted wall behind it and move the noggin foward a bit. That was depressing and took hours because the noggin was nailed in and the nails were so close to the pipe we had to be super careful we didn't cut the pipe. But it is done now. We turned on the shower once we fixed the pipe and water spouted out the join in the shower rose. So now we need to wait until the plumbers come back during this week until we have our first shower. However the basins and toilet are all working.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This morning David hung up my Pottery Barn mirror and it looks terrific.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix6AwQpkXeKyd4TwXkZT30qg0enWZldrwmgbFl_eQNk-lRfL2IK-xcWU0ehmgwG2_CBGvscSBQzzGRX_KdS06Sv9ZqZc4M2Ss4dr7ktdenCz5sQCdUsuiA6u9Zz_JAslETwivZJmAOMwQ/s1600/20160522_133856.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix6AwQpkXeKyd4TwXkZT30qg0enWZldrwmgbFl_eQNk-lRfL2IK-xcWU0ehmgwG2_CBGvscSBQzzGRX_KdS06Sv9ZqZc4M2Ss4dr7ktdenCz5sQCdUsuiA6u9Zz_JAslETwivZJmAOMwQ/s640/20160522_133856.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
As you can see in the below photo, we are still waiting for Dave's brother to do the drawer fronts for the vanity. Not sure why he didn't turn up. I guess it is a brother thing.<br />

At the moment, we just have a suction toilet roll holder for $10 from Bunnings until we save for something decent.<br />

Today saw Dave put our new entrance set on the laundry door. It will be great to be able to go straight from the laundry to the clothes line instead of walking through the house and out the back door and down the side of the house.</div>

I went to Ikea yesterday and bought the farmhouse Domsjo sink for the laundry and the yummy black tap and the base cabinet. Hopefully the plumbers can fit this off during the week and I will actually be able to move the washing machine out of the bathroom and into the new laundry. Wow!! What will that feel like? I have been doing laundry in the bathroom for ages now, I don't remember what it is like to have it in it's own room. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We also sold our old baltic pine floorboards on Ebay tonight and made $460. That just paid for my Ikea trip. Also sold our old plaster sheet lifter for $150. I am trying to sell 3 old internal doors too so fingers crossed that they sell. Every little bit helps.<br />
<br />
Have a great week everyone.<br />
Cheers,<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfVZiCkd9G-9A6uOcLqMQizDuBNN0iiX1V08t2do_IFRTwuJmKGApgQzNHKEJGZ0w1ZCkM9ts5XVSTcie-es_lxqpoC2tkmncbed6zpC3oPjwHfTp7PZXBjD634x27B0UMZD4rJO3i48/s1600/20160518_111710a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxfVZiCkd9G-9A6uOcLqMQizDuBNN0iiX1V08t2do_IFRTwuJmKGApgQzNHKEJGZ0w1ZCkM9ts5XVSTcie-es_lxqpoC2tkmncbed6zpC3oPjwHfTp7PZXBjD634x27B0UMZD4rJO3i48/s640/20160518_111710a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
We have had our kitchen for about 10 years. It has an engineered stone benchtop in a Glacier colour. It has been wonderful; up until about 3 months ago when I started to notice some staining around the most used area.<br />
<br />
I tried many things to remove these stains (many wear cup marks from my tea cups) but nothing helped and I think the metho even made it worse because after that it started to stain even more.<br />
<br />
Today I tried something new. Toothpaste.<br />
<br />
Here is the before shot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJbqXKpkCQq59KCZZfWEf-KBB6DfgRiJ7455GxtUkbpnlBrljyo1DJ9te4hfLHELnPHjqKSjb_ODXgJ2Z4W-Z9l8xzRHG9ERSUF9bLpIbihMMk8I5Q3IXfdRiLP5x3RSR123POSKP2KyI/s1600/20160518_111148.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJbqXKpkCQq59KCZZfWEf-KBB6DfgRiJ7455GxtUkbpnlBrljyo1DJ9te4hfLHELnPHjqKSjb_ODXgJ2Z4W-Z9l8xzRHG9ERSUF9bLpIbihMMk8I5Q3IXfdRiLP5x3RSR123POSKP2KyI/s640/20160518_111148.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I used plain Colagate toothpaste that we use on our teeth everyday and an old cloth.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsH58IqQEyxXiX7GeTxRa42R4zbqVRkS4AyzUVUZAxyZxBrZQfDnuFRPiAM9xY-RLHzG-w790nYAspt5JRdNLonX3wscmDsh2bfJHeG6tYCYopTjPqcE-fhg_3k3qRBMpN59ZkOBDHql4/s1600/20160518_111710.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsH58IqQEyxXiX7GeTxRa42R4zbqVRkS4AyzUVUZAxyZxBrZQfDnuFRPiAM9xY-RLHzG-w790nYAspt5JRdNLonX3wscmDsh2bfJHeG6tYCYopTjPqcE-fhg_3k3qRBMpN59ZkOBDHql4/s640/20160518_111710.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I had already done most of the cleaning in this photo so the bench looks ok here.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Here is the after shot. Note that I have only done up to that join so you can see the difference in the two areas.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHltPhIhn8teQTbKGmHDWzgncmRkQLkDCBdxiNUcTil9t-eYR5StIX6Rss_z7liBuz74HswokdWNXZxjeMhvOybeCMRMCr1twC7QHdfiE03WlSdT7THuvmd8j4nRc2C22jOBCvTXU7Gco/s1600/20160518_112254.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHltPhIhn8teQTbKGmHDWzgncmRkQLkDCBdxiNUcTil9t-eYR5StIX6Rss_z7liBuz74HswokdWNXZxjeMhvOybeCMRMCr1twC7QHdfiE03WlSdT7THuvmd8j4nRc2C22jOBCvTXU7Gco/s640/20160518_112254.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
Here is a closer shot of that area. I might say that it did look worse in real life than in these photos.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRAigxg0fREwypuRyuSkPReAdICT4tZD6Mnv_dppI2vDkAOt0FX1ZZ4ugoaXVq0szHDMFo_YtOZenJ08YCi3nJQ7SeUy5JpDrMwUpHPaVenHWnfCbmmFvkZOo9Ym_z4ribMc8LzfgJHFk/s1600/20160518_112956.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRAigxg0fREwypuRyuSkPReAdICT4tZD6Mnv_dppI2vDkAOt0FX1ZZ4ugoaXVq0szHDMFo_YtOZenJ08YCi3nJQ7SeUy5JpDrMwUpHPaVenHWnfCbmmFvkZOo9Ym_z4ribMc8LzfgJHFk/s640/20160518_112956.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Needless to say I am so thrilled that I no longer look at my bench in despair and it now looks fresh and clean again.<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />
