We have a staircase date and other works

The latest breaking news at This Little Yellow House is that the stair guy just sent and sms and said let's do the stars on Monday. So that is 5 more sleeps. I'd normally be doing a dance but that initial excitement from last week has faded. I am sure Monday morning I will be excited and dying to get home from work.

We spent the weekend working on a few things. Saturday morning Dave pulled down the scaffold.

So now it looks like this from the back fence line. You may be able to see what I was doing while he was doing that from the picture above. I painted most of the back wall in the first coat of Lion's Den yellow.

Dave is actually finishing it off right now (time check: 8:47pm). Champion!

Other work we did after that was to brace the stairwell walls then hang the plaster. We had to both get up on the highest ladder to get the plaster up while Andrew kept the kids well clear below.

Also we got the ceiling framed up at the top of the stair well and bought some lining boards to paint white then install maybe next week.

Then yesterday I moved all the scaffold timber under the back pergola so the kids can actually get to the trampoline again. This was the before photo. Now it is all clear again.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. But check in next week for the staircase!

Cheers,
Nat

A new water feature/catastropy

What an eventful dinner time we had today. Remember a few days ago the plumber capped off the old laundry pipes?
Well tonight my son stepped on it and the cap blew off and a fountain appeared in the house about 1 meter high. Water went everywhere. All over the plaster sheets we had on the floor, over the chipboard flooring and even hit the back doors. We had to turn off the water at the main, call the plumber to see how to put it back on and then clean up the water.

After that we got a heater out to dry it up and Dave made bigger holes in the floor to push the pipes down under the floor so it wont happen again.

After all that was fixed he did some more bracing of the walls in the stairwell and hanging some plaster.

Time now to sit down with a Chardonnay! Ahhh bliss.

A very disappointing day

A friend commented on my last post about how she admired my patience. Thanks Jane, but at the moment my patience is wearing pretty thin I am afraid. The stairguy told us in December he'd have our staircase in before Christmas, even if it meant he was doing it on Christmas Eve. Well is in now the 3rd of February and we are still waiting. Last week he said it would be installed early to mid this week. Dave text him today and he said they are still working on the post which are a 'bit tricky' but gave no time for delivery.

So I am mega sad and fed up right now. I was so excited all day today thinking that tomorrow would be the big day. I am so sick of waiting, especially seeing as we are paying so much money for this.

When Dave saw how upset I was, he pulled his finger out and brace plyed the dining room wall after work. Then I was this happy.
Well that is me cooking dinner with earmuffs because of the noise of the nail gun, saw etc. Bonus is I couldn't hear the kids fighting either. Well I could be they didn't need to know that.

So here is the progress on that wall.

First we had to disconnect all the power and network points.
 Then straighten the wall.
Then insulate, with the help of Sammy.
All insulated (except one side where the weatherboards are missing and we didn't want it to get wet.)
 Brace ply going on.

Then it is all done.

Bye bye holes in the walls. We think we will panel this wall eventually, just so it look like a separate space for the dining room and create some interest.

On the weekend, I sanded and painted the last four weatherboards on the top back wall. So we can take down that scaffold on the weekend, hopefully.

That's about all.

Fingers crossed for us that we get the staircase ASAP before I go crazy.

Cheers,
Nat
