Ledge above staircase

I think I need some advice.

It turns out that there will be a little ledge half way up our stairs because of a big metal beam. I'd rather not just plaster it all in because it will make the stairwell feel smaller. But I am worried that the kids may try to walk along it and then fall.

It will be kinda like this ledge below.

What do you think I can do to leave it open but make it safe but no ugly?

I could just put things on it like the picture but that wont stop the kids trying to walk along it.

Any other ideas? I am scanning Pinterest to try to find clever solutions too.

Nat

More of my bedroom

A few weeks ago I posted some photos of my newly styled dresser in my bedroom. I realised that I haven't taken any shots of the actual bed since I started this blog. So, I took a few today. I found it hard to get a good shot with my point and shoot camera due to all the light coming through the windows. These are the best of a bad lot of photos.

I really want to paint this room and get new lamps and one day a new bedroom suit.

That print above the bed is of Wine Glass Bay in Tasmania. David bought the poster when we stayed there once when we were dating. Then he got it framed and it has been hanging above the bed for years now. It will stay there until something better comes along, but at the moment it will stay as I just love to be surrouded by water and seaside treasures. Must be because I am a Pisces. I'd love to panel that back wall too after the ensuite door goes in on the left side. Both those windows will go too once the ensuite is started.

Cheers,

Working on the back wall still

This weekend was a bit fiddly and we really didn't get much work done. Not that we were slacking off but just the things we were doing were not big game changes.

On Saturday I sanded the East wall with the orbital mouse sander. We need to take of a bit of the primer that comes on the weatherboards because it isn't good quality and tends to peel off after a while. So if we sand it back it gives the painted a better chance to stick.

Speaking of painting, I painted one of the back windows with the first undercoat and got started on the second window. At least that will protect them a bit from the rain.

You can see it in the picture below. It is the right one that is completed with coat number one.

Dave also installed the flashings on top of the windows. Also he installed those white coloured weatherboards above and some below the doorway at the back (below).
So only small additions in the scheme of things, but they still needed preparation like packing walls and running string lines which all take time.

Hopefully next weekend we will do something more but I don't know what Dave has planned yet.

Cheers,
Nat
