I think I need some advice.
It turns out that there will be a little ledge half way up our stairs because of a big metal beam. I'd rather not just plaster it all in because it will make the stairwell feel smaller. But I am worried that the kids may try to walk along it and then fall.
It will be kinda like this ledge below.
What do you think I can do to leave it open but make it safe but no ugly?
I could just put things on it like the picture but that wont stop the kids trying to walk along it.
Any other ideas? I am scanning Pinterest to try to find clever solutions too.
Cheers,
Nat
Would you make it into a bookshelf that goes up the wall or would that close it in too much too?
ReplyDeleteAh yeah that could work but it wouldn't really be accessible to get books down and a pain to dust. But I think something like that could work.
DeleteJust a single layer of book shelf (or maybe two, so less tempting as a tightrope) would look great. I saw a pic like that this week, but can't find it again. It looked pretty good. If you are really worried about kids climbing you could use diamond shaped book shelves, rather than square, so that you don't end up with a flat ledge to walk on. (Might look a little odd though.)
ReplyDeleteYeah I suppose if the ledge is covered with books they wont be taking them all down to walk over them. If you find that picture at ay stage,I'd love to see it :)
DeleteThanks.
